Summer Series 3: Color Blocking for Men!

From the title you can see that this post is going to be relating to color-blocking for you men out there. If you are unaware what this is, we are going to do our best to give you some outfits that will better explain what it is & how you do it. For starters though, check out the definition below!

def: "cull'lore-blah'king": To mix & match colors that you would not normally put together. Instead of wearing a subtle color with a bright one, you can have on multiple bright colors together and it still be acceptable. -vintage mahogani.

So let's start off and check out these colorful outfits from Ochocinco. As many of you know, Mr.Chad is not afraid to make a statement when it comes to after the games and saying something in his interviews or wearing bold clothes. So it should not be a surprise that he would be one of the men out there that would try something such as color-blocking. We say this because if you do some research, there are very few men (just like the animal print) that try color-blocking...Anyways, as you can see he has on two different very bold colored outfits.

The left one we wouldn't say that it was 100% color blocking just because he matched the pink lining of his cardigan to his pants, but we still think it gives you a great example. We  think that in order to really consider this outfit color-blocking that 1: there should not really be any type of matching back going on & 2: he could have went with a royal blue or maybe even a purple shirt to really bring color-blocking alive. His outfit to left however, gives you a very clear idea on what this "fad" looks like. Even though the top is a pastel color (lighter, has more white in it than the normal color would), it is still considered a bright color and it really pops against the bright yellow pants. The fact that he went with white shoes for both outfits, really adds to them just because when going with bright white shoes like that it can be considered another color and in this situation it really seems that way.

Next up, we are going to look at both Lance Gross & Kanye West..If you look to both guys below you can see that they both have on that same orange/coral color. However we wanted to show you that there are different levels to your color blocking. Lance went with more of a subtle way, where-as Mr. West went bold with it.

Instead of Lance going with a bright blue to go with his orange just kept the rest of his outfit around the same color range, and there is nothing wrong wit that. We suggest that if you are not ready to make the commitment to do something bold like Kanye to do some baby steps and try the sublet approach.
Now if you're trying to make a statement take a closer look at Kanye's look, it's bright in every aspect of it he did not opt for a subtle color when it came to everything besides the orange color he went brighter.

The best explanation that we have, as far as color-blocking for you, is to keep it bright. Instead of doing the typical jean, or khaki colored pant with a bright top..try something colored. Such as a chino pant or colored skinny-jean. Just do something that is out of the ordinary.
Looking at this color-wheel may start you off a little bit when it comes to selecting colors. If you look at one color and follow the arrow to the color across that is going to be a colors "complementary color". Meaning the color across from it complements it the best when put together. So if you need somewhere to start off, we suggest starting with this. This is not to say that you can not put together a color that is not directly across..this is merely a starting point, for beginners out there. SN: For an example..check out Kanye's outfit again, he is wearing complementary colors for his color blocking!

So GOOD LUCK! It's not that hard, once you get the hang of it it will be a piece of cake....hopefully! lol Oh yeah, be sure to check out the video on Friday we're going to give you a more in-depth description on how to achieve color-blocking successfully!
