We think what Audre was trying to say in this quote was basically to determine/know who you are. Only you can define yourself, you know you best. If you don't define yourself, you always be what other people think of you and do what other people want for you, and that will eventually consume your life. Basically, do what makes you happy. Follow your dreams, achieve your own goals for yourself, and fulfill your purpose that God has given you, not another person.
