NYE Outfit Suggestions Ladies?!/2012 Bonus!

Hey ladies...we know we haven't really been posting but we couldn't leave 2011 without giving you one last outfit suggestion...New Years Eve outfits! We don't really have an overall theme (focusing on one style) in mind...just going to show you a few outfit suggestions and how/where to get them!!! Also...we're going to throw hair and makeup suggestions in with the outfit so you can get tips for a full look! With that being said.....let's get into it!

Our outfit suggestions we found are in black...but we will give you some different color suggestions!

Suggestion 1: A Regular Dress

To the right...we have Ms. Kim K in a form fitting, black knee-length dress with little to no jewelry. She kept her hair simple and we can't see the shoes but she could have went simple or extravagant. Either way would have been fine. Overall, this look is very sleek and "sexy" and very easy to achieve.

Let's say you did this Black Cut-Out Bodycon Dress from Forever 21. To keep it simple...you could do Black Ankle Booties from Baker's. As far as accessories you can just do a pair of stud earrings and a ring...nothing too extravagant. For makeup...since you are doing all black, you should do a pop of color like Red Lip and keep the rest of the makeup SIMPLE. If you wanted to do a SMOKEY EYE involving COLOR, you can do that & then just keep the LIP SHEER. .  When doing your hair...try and pull it up out of your face and do a Bun or pin it up really cute so people can see your stud earrings!

Okay...now...if you wanted to do a mini dress in color...let's say you did something like this Coral Combo Strapless Color-Block Dress from Charlotte Russe with these Black Stoned Ankle Booties. For accessories just do a pair of black button stud earrings and pin your hair up/back so they can be see. Keep your makeup simple since the dress is so bright...maybe do a sheer lip and a semi smokey eye and make your skin glow a little with some bronzer.

Suggestion 2: Go sheer!!

<----- This is what we mean by go sheer! Try a sheer piece of clothing for your NYE wardrobe...something simple but it can be spiced up easily!

For instance...try this Black on Black Mesh Contrast Dress or this BLACK MESH INSET DRESS ,both from Forever 21. For shoes you can spice it up with a POP OF COLOR (Royal Blue), PRINT (W/Snake Skin Print)  or TEXTURE! As far as accessories go...you can do these Long Chain Earrings with the ROYAL BLUE PUMPS, a pair of these Feather Earrings in Cobalt Blue or Emerald Green to go with the printed heels, or....you can do this pair of Fuchsia Spotted Feather Earrings to go with the "textured" heels! As far as hair goes... since your earrings are long, if you have long hair...do a loose/messy ponytail..while still making it look somewhat polished. If you have short hair, flat iron it for a sleek look. Makeup you ask...since you are doing a pop of something "extravagant" in this outfit, keep it simple and sheer, a glossy, nude lip, some mascara, eye liner, and bronzer will do!

Okay...so you don't want to do a dress, but you still want a sheer/mesh element in your outfit NYE? We have a look suggestion for you as well!

Start with Black Dotted High-Low Button Up! Since we kind of gave a suggestion above for an "all black" look with a pop of color....go ahead and add some color to the outfit by adding a black bandeau top underneath and go with this Jade Bandage Mini Skirt. Remember do the "unintentional" tuck ...not like you tried too hard but you still want to look polished. Then for shoes....add another pop of color and do maybe a pair of Mustard Pumps . Okay now for accessories, keep it simple and do a pair of stud earrings and a WATCH...very minimal as possible. Why? you ask...well because we suggest you do something like a BUBBLEGUM PINK LIPSTICK and just do eyeliner and mascara as far as eyes go. For your hair....do a bun or ponytail to keep it out of your face and let your lipstick show and if you have short hair...keep it sleek so it's not looking like you're doing too much!

Okay....our last suggestion...: SEQUINSSSSSSSSSS!

Our last suggestion comes from Kim K...again...what can we say?...she's quite FAB!

Okay...so she just has on a 3/4 sleeve black sequin mini dress with dangling earrings and a red ring. She just carried a black clutch and in the picture below, you'll be able to see her peep toe pumps.

This look can be easily achieved! Now we couldn't find a dress just like hers but for the 3/4 sleeve effect go with this Black/Royal Sequin Striped Dress or this Gold Sequined Sweetheart Dress, both from Forever21. Now for shoes...you can do something like this pair of Black Ankle Booties  with the Black/Royal dress and the same pair of Royal Blue Pumps for the Gold Sequined dress. As far as accessories go you can do just a simple pair of studs and ring with a pop of color like this Fuchsia/Pink Bejeweled Dome Ring to go with the Black/Royal ensemble. Then if you're going with the gold dress and royal blue pumps, just do some studs since the dress is rather flashy as far as color and sequins. Now for hair and makeup...you can wear your hair down with some curls...maybe pin it to one side so people can see your earrings! If you want them to fully see the earrings you choose....bun it or ponytail time! For makeup....go ahead and do a red lip, eyeliner, and mascara. This hair and makeup can apply to either dress choice.

If you didn't want to do a dress but you still wanted a sequined item in your wardrobe...do a sequined top or bottom.

For a sequin top look suggestion...start with this Jade Sequined Chiffon Top and pair it with something like these Black Classic Pleated Pants . For shoes and accessories, do this pair of  Pumps in SPICED CORAL and accessorize the outfit with silver studs and a royal blue ring. For hair do some loose/wavy curls down or for short hair....WHIP IT UP!....and makeup...do a glossy/nude lip with a smokey eye!

For a sequined bottom look...start with this pair of Black Sequin Hot Pants and unintentionally tuck something like this Teal Chiffon Blouse with a black bandeau top underneath.  For shoes and accessories....do this pair of Black Booties and accessorize the outfit with a pair of black, button earrings and mustard or yellow ring. For hair and makeup....do a bun or ponytail...button earrings are so cute and need to be seen! A red lip is vital to this outfit with just eyeliner and mascara to highlight the eyes!

NYE Outfit Suggestions Fellas?!/2012 Bonus!

Okay Fellas....we couldn't leave 2011 without giving you one last post....New Years Eve Outfit Suggestions!! Now....we don't have an overall theme, just picked out a few celebrity men looks that we liked and thought were appropriate for NYE. The looks can be switched up easily to make them your own ...and we're going to tell you how. With that being said...let's hop right into today's post!

Suggestion 1: A Dressy- Casual Blazer Look

Now....we feel like NYE is somewhat of an occasion that you dress up for even if you're a jeans and t-shirt type guy. This look is not too far of a stretch. It's not a full blown suit, just 1 or 2 key dressy pieces and the rest you can be comfortable with a t-shirt and pants...maybe even jeans.

Now...look to your right and you'll see "Ye" in a grey blazer ....now what he did with the rest of it was stylish but comfortable. He paired a graphic polo underneath the blazer and did a pair of belted, white pants. He also put a red pocket square in the blazer...which definitely gives a the look somewhat of a dressy feel.

Now to replicate this look while still making it your own...start with this Brown Herringbone Blazer from ASOS.com. You can also find these at J.Crew and Urban Outfitters just to name a couple places. For your casual element you can do something like this Ivory/Black Graphic Tee layered underneath. For bottoms...do something different, yet still causal and try these Dark Plum Chino Pants  or this pair of Blue Docker Pants. Now as far as shoes go you can do these Black Leather Wingtip Dress Shoes for both looks. Then to complete your look don't forget to belt your pants (black belt), throw in that pocket square..teal for the plum chino pants look and orange for the dark teal/blue dockers look , and maybe a nice watch like this Rose Golden Michael Kors Watch.

Suggestion 2: A Dressy-Casual Cardigan Look.

Okay fellas....above you see D. Wade in a dark grey, double-breasted button-up cardigan with a white v-neck layered underneath and khaki pants. We can't see the shoes, but we're hoping he went with some type of oxford or wingtip shoe. He completed the look with a black and gold watch.

To get a similar look while still making it your own, start with this Black Double Breasted Cardigan and instead of doing the tee...which you can...we suggest you do a button-up underneath like this Cotton Button-Up in Green/ "Polo Match". Now bottoms is where your casual element comes in...do a pair of DARK WASH jeans with this look. Then for shoes you can go one of two routes: do something like these Black Lace-Up Boots or something similar to this pair of  Black Oxfords. To complete the look, do a tie like this Black.Grey/Raspberry Stripe Silk Tie so everything isn't so solid and do a nice watch like this Michael Kors Stainless Steel Watch

Suggestion 3: A Full Suit Look!

Okay the last look...comes from Trey Songz...a full suit look. Ladies know there's nothing like a man that can "hang a suit" ....well! Now depending on what type of club or event you're going to for NYE ...this may or may not be appropriate but we wanted to suggest it. But....if you're in there "hanging a suit " well....and fly...that's all that matters!!

So... look to the left with us..Trey has on a subtly striped grey suit with a white dress button-up shirt underneath. For shoes, he went with some nice black wingtip shoes and completed the outfit with a silk, black tie. If any of the looks are easy to replicate...this is the easiest.

While replicating it and still making it your own, start with this Black Fitted Suit from Express. Put this White/Berry Striped Dress Button-Up underneath. To complete the look do these Black Leather Wingtip Dress Shoes that were suggested in Kanye's tip and put on this Skinny Silk Tie to give it more of a fashionable look instead of traditional. We even suggest you throw on a pair of black frame geek-chic glasses.

Okay so let's say you did want to do a grey suit...start with this Grey Sharkskin Modern Fit Suit and just do the two pieces...not the vest too....wayyyy too much. Lol. Then put this Modern Fit Stretch Button Up in either the "Pink Punch" or "Radiant Rose" color. For shoes...you can do the same black wingtip shoes that were suggested or even the oxfords from D.Wade's tip. Now instead of doing a regular tie...do a bow tie like this Black/Silver Dotted Bow Tie  or even the Solid one and throw on the geek chic's!

Well fellas....that's all we have for 2011!!!

As an added bonus and to start 2012 right....we're having a contest..! Here are the details:

1. Take a picture of your NYE outfit

2. Tweet/Twitpic us @vintagemahogani with the topic #NYEContest or email us the picture to vintagemahogani@ymail.com

Motivational Tuesday!

Hello Everyone!! Finals week took ahold of us and took up all of our time last week. However we are back this week, so stayed tuned tomorrow for the women's & men's post in one! Furthermore today we want to give you something to think about this week!
For God so Loved the World, that he gave his only begotten son, that whosoever believeth in him should not perish but have everlasting life.' John 3:16 KJV

We want to give you this scripture for the simple fact that Christmas is not only about what you get and what you get others. Rather it should be more focused on God, who gave his only son for all of us. So for Christmas, be with your family and enjoy every moment that you can with them, but also keep God in mind and remember to give him thanks!

Merry Christmas !

We did not plan on getting matching dresses, however we both fell in love with the same color dress in the midst of searching for one. So we figured, why not wear the same color! lol Anyways, check out the video below and as you know we L.O.V.E. comments so don't forget to leave them below!

Fall Essential 4: Scarves for Men!

Alright Men!! Today is Wednesday so you know what that means, you get your fashion tip for the week!
Since we are still in our Fall Essential Series we are going to let y'all in on how to wear scarves for this fast approaching winter!

Now, personally we don't see many guys around here wearing scarves and we want to change that. Scarves are not only a piece of fabric to keep your neck warm but they are amazing accessories that you can add to just about any outfit. So stay tuned and learn how to incorporate these scarves into your already AMAZING [well if not yet..soon to be, keep following us ; ) ] wardrobe!!

The infinity scarf is amazing! They're very versatile and honestly we feel like they keep you the warmest in the neck area. They are not the complicated and they can really add just that little extra umph! that you need to make your outfit come alive. Now we were not able to find a celebrity man wearing one (tsk tsk) but we do have this model sporting one. In what looks to be the makes of a casual outfit. We think that this scarf would do best with the casual outfits anyways. Throw on a causal long sleeve tee, with a cardigan or jacket over top (it's cold out)..select an infinity scarf such as this one with added texture, and some khakiscargos, or even some sweats...you decide and to keep those feet warm but on some winter boots. Simple. It's not too complicated and it will keep you looking stylish and warm at the same time.

Now, we know some of you may be a little confused as to how these scarves really work. So stay tuned for our video post this week and we are going to show exactly how these scarves work!

Moving right along to your ordinary long scarf. Here we have Mr. Jay-Z wearing a black and white checkered scarf. As you can see he has it knotted in a different fashion rather than the plain wrap around the neck look. Anyways...He really used this scarf to dress up this look. He has on a deep grey cowl neck sweater, some dark dress pants, with a checkered blazer on as well. If we must say, Jigga looks quite debonair in this picture and it does not take much at all to recreate.

Starting off with these dark charcoal dress pants, you can really go anywhere. Put on a dark sweater similar to Jay-Z's or try a lighter color to contrast against the color of the pants. Either way it'll look great. Next throw on a heavy blazer (this one is pricey, stop by goodwill you can find some nice ones for cheap!) , just so that the need of a coat is very slight. Top this off with this amazing burgundy or blue scarf. It still has the checkered print that Mr. Man to the left has, but in a brighter color to give you a little more flare. And then you're ready to go. . Oh yeah! don't forget to throw on your oxfords to add some personality to this outfit as well!

Taking this exact look to the casual side takes two things:
1. Change your dress pants to jeans
and 2. Put on some lace up boots and you're ready to go to class or any other casual event!

And to conclude this post, here we have Mr. Beckham!
Now fellas, if you are looking for someone to look at for some style inspiration when it comes to scarves, David has it in the bag! This man loves scarves...don't believe us check this google search of David Beckham in a scarf. As you can see he has the scarves game in the bag. But for this last look we are going to look at how to wear your scarf in the "bib" type fashion. Also known as the gangster or western look.

If you look, it looks as though Mr. Beckham through on his scarf around a military inspired green colored shirt, with some light colored jeans. We aren't able to see the shoes (darn! just like the other two examples today) but we assume that he had on maybe some converse, boots, or even some dress shoes. Whichever one he went with we know that they looked the bomb.

Replicating this look, is far from complicated as well. Take a shirt similar to D.B.'s and some light washed jeans. Throw on some converse like these, put on a scarf similar to this color and shrugs....you're ready to go! There's nothing really to it. Now because of the styling of the shirt and the light wash of the jeans we put this look in the category of dressy-casual. It's not too dressy to wear he looks like he's going to a ball and it's not too casual as though he's going to the grocery store. This is the type of look that is acceptable at just about all social college events.

Now we know that this post was very vague and we left a lot of room for self-interpretation, but that's all we can really give you when it comes to scarves. Considering that they are an accessory it is kind of up to the person what they want to do with it. However, if you are concerned with how to get your scarves tied different type of ways we have that covered for you. As stated earlier watch out for an instructional video on how to wear your scarves being posted this week!

Just remember when it comes to your selection and wearing of scarves:
1. Try and pick colors that others normally stray away from*
2. Try an interesting print, do something bold*
3. Wear it with confidence, there is a select number of men who wear scarves so if you do make sure you rock it with confidence.
4. As always, keep it simple if all else fails. (i.e. a tee, some jeans, tennis shoes, and a scarf)

* If you go with a bright color or bold print, keep the rest of your outfit simple. Don't over do it with the prints and colors in the rest of your outfit if you are going to do a loud scarf. This will allow your scarf to really be an added piece to the look, versus something that is just blending in with the rest of your outfit.

Hope this post was helpful and we hope that you enjoyed it! Be sure to comment and leave questions if you have them. Also if you wear a scarf as a result of this post..take a pic and shout us out!! lol
Enjoy this great accessory and don't forget to add some swag!

Fall Essential 4: Scarves!!!

Okay ladies...we wanted to take a break from the Fall Essentials tops and do an accessory, so we went with scarves! Scarves are a big/ very important Fall Essential that everyone should own (at least one). They are extremely versatile/can be dressed up and down and come in all different sizes, materials, prints, shapes, styles, and colors. Today...we're going to tell you about 3 particular styles: The Regular Scarf, The Infinity Scarf, and The Bib Scarf.

First up....the regular scarf.

A regular scarf has two open ended sides to it and can be worn multiple ways...in a knot, wrapped around, etc.. For our regular scarf look...we have Beyonce looking fabulous to the right in her leopard print, Alexander McQueen scarf. She complimented the scarf with a red blazer. She then paired a white t-shirt underneath the blazer with a pair of denim skinny jeans and brown/black booties. This outfit is pretty fly yet easy to replicate.

To get a look similar to Beyonce's start with this Red Tortoise Button Blazer from Forever21 and layer this White Slub Knit Tee underneath. As far as bottoms and shoes go, you can do these Denim Black Skinny Jeans and this pair of Brown Leatherette Stiletto Boots. Lastly, accessories... you can do this pair of Gold Hoops and just a bangle like this Gold Classic Hinge Cuff. Most importantly, for your scarf do something like this Leopard Knit Scarf from Target.

If you wanted to replicate this outfit and kind of make it your own...just switch a few colors and prints around. For instance, start with this Royal Bold Shoulder Blazer and layer this Taupe Relaxed V-Neck Tee underneath. For bottoms...do the same Denim Black Skinny Jeans and as far as shoes go, try these Brown/Black Tiger Print Wedges. Keep the same earrings and bangle and just do something like this Orange Essential Knit Scarf.

<<----Moving on to Scarf...The INFINITY Scarf!

Infinity scarves are the scarves that won't stop....they don't have any open ended sides. They can be doubled up or just worn normally. It is an easy accessory to throw on to tie an outfit together. With that being said...let's hop into the outfit suggestion.

For a replica of this outfit start with this Black Longline Mock Pocket Blazer  and just layer this Rust Colored Essential Layering Tank underneath. Then for your bottoms do this pair of Black Ribbed Knit Tights  and something like these Black Distressed Wedge Ankle Booties for your shoes. Now, as far as accessories just do this pair of Silver High Polish Hoops and a bangle like this Teal/Purple Shimmering Textured Bracelet . Oh...your scarf...? ...Do this Purple "Open Knit Neck Warmer"/ Infinity Scarf.

Last scarf ...the Bib Scarf. ----->>

The bib scarf is one that goes around the neck...sorta of like a baby bib. They come in all different colors and prints.

This scarf look comes from Alicia Keys. She has on a leather bomber jacket, red shirt layered underneath, acid wash jeans, and black and white tennis shoes. This outfit is really easy to replicate like the other outfits suggested.

Start out with this Black Leatherette Jacket and layer this Red V-Neck Tee underneath. For bottoms you can do these Grey Acid Wash Jeans and you can do some black/white chucks for your tennis shoes. For your accessories just do some Silver High Polish Hoops and your scarf you can kind of make it your own and do this Black/Cream Confetti Bib Scarf.

Well ladies...that's all we have for this post. Feel free to leave any questions or comments you may have!

Fall Essential 3: Corduroy for Men

Hey fellas...we apologize about the delay. I know we are about a week late with your post but it's better late than never right? Since we've kept you waiting, we're just going to hop right into the post.

It's getting colder day by day and winter is quickly approaching. Corduroys are a great piece of clothing to own during these chilly days. They are very diverse...coming in all different colors, can be dressed up and down, and they look great with almost any type of shoe (loafers, oxfords, lace-up boots, etc.)

With that being said....we're going to start showing you some looks for you to re-create and make your own.

This sweatshirt is a replica of a t-shirt Muhammad Ali,
then Cassius Clay, wore in training for his 1964
upset of Sonny Liston, in which he won the
heavyweight title for the first time.
Look 1...A casual corduroy look.

Okay so for a casual corduroy look...start out with this pair of Hawkings McGill Straight Corduroy Pant in the Dark Blue color from Urban Outfitters. As far as a shirt goes...do something like this Light Grey/Black Cassius Clay Crew Sweatshirt  and you can put a plain tee underneath, but make sure it shows a little...maybe do a yellow or red one to add some color to the outfit.

Don't forget to cuff, roll, or scrunch the sleeves of the sweatshirt.

As far as shoes go, you can do these Converse/Chuck Taylors  in the white since you're going for a casual look. And there you have it....a simple casual outfit. It really isn't that hard of a look to achieve and it's not that expensive either. Also..the suggested  pieces can be worn with different things...meaning they are all pretty versatile.

Moving on to look #2... a Dressy-Casual corduroy look.

Okay the dressy-casual look for you guys comes from a Lacoste fashion show. The stylists of the show paired the corduroys with a series of striped sweaters and different styles of shoes, tennis shoes and boots. These looks are pretty easy to achieve and we will show you how and also recommend another look to kind of make it your own.

Okay starting with a replica outfit, let's say you do these Levi 514 5-pocket Corduroy Pants  in the color Khaki from Urban Outfitters. Now...you can do this Cream/Burgundy Striped Knit Sweater  from Forever 21-21 Men.  The sizing of the stripes differ from the ones shown in the picture but you get the gist of it. As far as shoes go...you can do this pair of Minnetonka Double Bottom Hardsole Moccasins in Brown. This pretty much does it for the "striped sweater and corduroy pant" look.

Now for a look you can kind of make your own... start with these Levi's 511 Beat Down Corduroy Pant  in the Dark Olive color. As far as a top goes, do this Light Denim Button Up and layer this printed Tan/Brown Shawl Collar Cardigan over it. For shoes you can do these Brown Sperry Top-Sider Boat Shoes

Moving on to Look 3... A Corduroy Button Up.

We have no pictures of someone in corduroy button up, but we're still going to suggest/recommend an outfit with it. Start with this Urban Renewal Vintage Corduroy Shirt in the dark green color. Throw this CPO Double-Breasted Shawl Cardigan in the light grey color. For bottoms and shoes...you can do these Levi 511 Skinny Commuter Series Pant in the khaki color and shoes...these Oxfords in Charcoal.

Last one....Look 4....Corduroy Blazer

The last look we're showing you is a Corduroy Blazer look. This is really easy to achieve and not that costly.

To get a look similar to this one. Start with this Khaki Urban Renewal Vintage Corduroy Blazer  from Urban Outfitters. Then you can put this CPO Lightweight Denim Dress Shirt  in green underneath and instead of a bowtie...do this Navy/Cream Knit Infinity Scarf. Now for bottoms you can do these Dark Denim Tapered Jeans and make sure you cuff them/roll them up. The reason being...try these Ombre Stripe Socks in the greenish color and these Taupe Derby Shoe . When you cuff the jeans..the socks will show. Just try it out!!

Well fellas....we hope we gave you a few outfit suggestions that you can see yourself wearing or ones you want to at least attempt to wear. Let us know of any questions or comments you may have.
